CRAU (if applicable): N/A
Powers (no more than 150 words):
Ryouma is a Servant. Essentially, this means that he has a body composed entirely of magic (ether) with enhanced strength, abilities, senses, and durability (compared to a human). When a Heroic Spirit is summoned as a Servant, they are something like a complex magical familiar and are more or less bound by the constraints assigned to them by the class they're summoned as. In Ryouma's case, he is summoned as a Lancer. Servants possess a Noble Phantasm — which may be a legendary weapon or skill — and Ryouma's is the Ama-no-Sakahoko, which is a god-sealing spear capable of changing shape.
As a former Rider class-Servant, Ryouma retains his Riding skill which gives him automatic knowledge of how to skillfully operate any vehicle and tame and mount any rideable beast, including dragons. He doesn't actually know this by thinking about it; when he gets his hands on something, it just works.
Personality
What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words)
Not much frightens Ryouma because he generally has a way of talking himself through things, but he openly admits that he actively runs away from things that make him sad. He hates being confronted by sad things and, by extension, his failures. It's almost like he worries that if he's forced to face them, he will be bogged down by them and never be able to rise again.
He is defined by this in how it makes him incredibly evasive about his feelings and desires. He would rather suffer in silence if he feels he's doing right by someone else than admit that he has a problem — it's fine because he's smiling! He also struggles a bit with connecting with people for this reason. His response to other people's problems is finding a solution rather than knowing how to comfort them. If the problem is solved, they won't need comforting, right? He has a very kind heart and desires the best for people, but his tendency to self-sacrifice and refusal to deal with his emotions in a healthy way contributes to his recklessness as well as his poor coping behaviours. Why be sad when you can get drunk?
What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words)
Above all else, Ryouma has always felt that he existed to perform a duty. He wants to create a world where everyone can be happy, and this desire has defined everything about him across two lifetimes. In life, he was a lowly country samurai who wanted to save Japan from the external forces that threatened it. He did this by effectively overturning the government and inventing a new one. Most significantly, he did this with as little violence and bloodshed as possible.
As a Servant, Ryouma made a Pact with the World the night before he died and stepped into arguably the cruellest job someone as kind-hearted as he should ever have to do. Even so, he has accepted his reality as a Counter Guardian because he never gives up on the hope that one day he might fulfil that dream. In reality, Ryouma got the worst part of a bad deal. The World wants to preserve Humanity, but the Counter Force doesn't care about individual human lives or feelings. He is often forced to trade the lives of a few to save many more because he is sent too late to make any real change.
This drive has also made it more difficult for Ryouma to get close to others. Despite being very friendly, he tends to keep his distance from others emotionally. He figures it will be easier for them when his duty inevitably takes him away from them. This belief has not gone over well with others in the past.
How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words)
The biggest change will be freeing him from the harsh reality of being a Counter Guardian. He has been doing that for a very long time and carries a lot of pain and regret around from that. His natural inclinations will no longer be tempered by the experience that comes with things going wrong more often than they go right. He's carried a certain exhaustion about him that would be lifted, and more of his optimistic spirit would shine through.
Stripping away those memories leaves him as he was during his short life. Ryouma was considered a visionary, and that's what made him famous, but he was not always that person. He only lived to be 31 years old, so he grew a lot in a very short amount of time, and again experience played a strong role in shaping the man he became.
As a result, he will probably be more childish and naive. He was considered a late bloomer in terms of finding his path in life, so he spent a lot of time not being sure of anything at all. He will probably end up wanting to spend a lot more time swordfighting and drinking than trying to solve any problems. Well into his twenties, his family wondered, "Will he be a dragon or a house cat" because even Ryouma wasn't sure what sort of person he was meant to be. He's just out here to have a good time and figure it out later.
Memories
You have 10 memory points. How will you use them?
Relationship Core: 2 points.
He remembers Oryou in abstract ways, like feeling strangely at ease with frighteningly inhuman monsters. He doesn't realise the weird empty feeling in his chest is because they're apart, but when he's with someone else, he's aware that he's comfortable because he's meant to have someone at his side. He can't remember anything about her as a person, only the impressions she left behind and the shape of the absence he feels missing his literal other half.
Relationship Core: 3 points.
He knows there's someone who has known him his entire life, even at his worst, who stuck by him even when no one else would. He knows that this person helped make him stronger. He will also know that he made a decision that would have a profoundly negative impact on this person's life. This is all that he will recall of Okada Izō.
Skill: 2 points.
Kendo. Ryouma attained mastery in the Hokushin Ittō style of swordsmanship.
Major Memory: 2 points.
Ryouma recalls the fact that he is a samurai from Tosa and that he planned to make a living with his sword. He knows he had a sister who taught him everything he knows before he went off to train in Edo, but can't remember her name. He otherwise remembers random, unimportant details about life in 1860s Japan, like drinking games or walking long distances over the mountains.
Minor Memory: 1 point.
He remembers his special interest in warships and technology. He just thinks they're neat!!
